Fellow graphic designer and photographer, Jason Travis, is the guitarist for a band called Sealions. He’s one of the most talented and unique artists I’ve met, I went through several years of design school at Georgia State with Jason and had always made promises of coming out to see his band, but I never did until now!

I got to the show just in time to see Modern Skirts perform. I loved these guys from Athens and thought they had a great sound!

Sealions were great with their modern-80s vibe! It was awesome seeing Jason rock out and dance around stage. The normally reserved artist really came to life on stage!

One morning 5 months ago, I was sitting in a cubicle in an office avoiding responsibilities for a morning in order to continuously click a button so I could get in an imaginary line to wait for A Perfect Circle tickets. Well it paid off and I got to see Maynard for a third time, but more excitedly I got to see Billy Howardel for the FIRST time!

After many many failed attempts, I gave up trying to get my camera in the venue. I almost got kicked out for taking a couple of shots from my phone, but even those didn’t turn out too well.

Aside from asshole Live Nation security and $6 Yeunglings, I had a blast meeting the Japanese Punk band Red Bacteria Vacuum.

I loved seeing APC, although their set was a little underwhelming. I was warned ahead of time that they’d be playing mostly stuff from eMotive, but it just seemed like the band was a little tired. After the first song they announced they ha been traveling all day and had just arrived in Atlanta. All in all, I was very happy to hear my favorites off of 13th Step performed live! Billy was AMAZING live!

The Clermont Lounge is always a fun time, especially when FYN comes out to perform! This was a challenging shoot because I forgot my external flash (I need a bigger camera bag!) and the Clermont doesn’t have very good lighting. I made due with my on-camera flash and a torn up piece of cocktail napkin as a diffuser. I got there in time to catch the last song of Palaces and grab a few shots of the guys.

Afterwards was a “band” called Scaffolds. It wasn’t really my kind of music, and it was a little strange to see 5 guys sitting on the stage with their “instruments” during the entire performance. The drummer was badass though!

On Saturday, 15 bands came together to celebrate the 2 year anniversary of BeAtlanta.com. 15 Bands, 2 stages, 1 house. What a turnout! There were several hundred people there throughout the day, not to mention other bands that showed up just to watch. I showed up about 6 o’clock, and once again Jungol packed the house once they hit the stage!

I knew Cusses was going to be good when my buddy Drew Longino of Winter Ransom started drooling over them when they showed up. Wow, what a show! I was not expecting the bar to be raised with every band that hit the stage. I got some of the best shots of the night with them!

I had to leave the party to meet Darkwater Rising who were in town, so I missed The Charges. We ended up missing their set as well to see Cusses, but we did however, talk Dark Water Rising to coming out to the house party after they finished up.

Jungol was phenomenal as usual! It was hard to get shots this time, the only lights in the room were coming off the LCD panels on their keyboards. At this point my flash was long dead, so I had to use the on-camera flash, blinding everyone in the room every time it went off. I think Josh started closing his eyes because of my flash, sorry Josh! After a few songs I was tired, hot, covered in spilled beer, and pissing off the dancing naked gentlemen behind me…so I tapped out and sat back to enjoy the rest of the show.

Yoder Twins Activate! Jungol draws a crowd.

On Saturday, 15 bands came together to celebrate the 2 year anniversary of BeAtlanta.com. 15 Bands, 2 stages, 1 house. What a turnout! This was my most challenging photo session to date, with very little room to maneuver and odd to no lighting setups. Especially the outdoor stage on the back patio, I really couldn’t get any good shots from that angle. Finally when Jungol hit the stage, they were playing in PITCH BLACK! That being said I still managed to get some kickass shots. Enjoy!

Thursday is the local Blues Jam at Sidelines Bar and Grill in Marietta. The Jam Session will be relocating to Darwin’s Burgers and Blues when we open, so I went to go check out the show and meet some of the musicians.

I was impressed! The house band did a great job opening up the show, the first group of jammers were local folks including a 15 year old kid! When the show comes to Darwin’s in the future, I’ll be able to get everyone’s names to go along with the pictures!

On June 25th, an epic concert broke out at Star Bar in Little 5 Points. A The Color, Winter Ransom, and Jungol came together and put on AMAZING show!

This was my first time seeing Jungol. I’ve met the Yoder brothers briefly a few times in the past, and I saw them perform one song at their Birthday Bash earlier this year, but this was my first time seeing them in concert.

Wow!

These guys were phenomenal! I could only expect an awesome show when half the audience consisted of other bands who’ve all been praising about Jungol to me for months! Well, you guys definitely have a new fan!

Star Bar sold out, and the floor was PACKED by the time Jungol came on. It sounded so good next to the speakers and I was right next to Josh the whole time, so I decided not to change angles. I didn’t really think I could get anywhere else up close again if I left.
