Atlanta Boogie: I don’t know if you know, but Mike Bourne is AWESOME! Between his skills, that sweet Silvertone he’s rockin, and Paul Diffin’s upright slap bass style, Atlanta Boogie has an incredibly unique sound! We loved having these guys out at Darwin’s! Mike Bourne will be back on Friday with Stoney Brooks, come check ‘em out!

Little G Weevil - 10.08.2011 @ Darwin’s Burgers and Blues. Little G is not just a musician, he’s an entertainer! G knows how to put on a good show and make sure everyone in the room is having a good time. Every week G has been bringing up a new guest, and this week we got 3! Ana Howells, Danny Vinson, and Beau Hall!

So, what does Chef Akin cook on his days off? Deliciousness! During renovations at Darwin’s, we would often go to Williamson Brothers to go get their smoked sausages. Akin has been obsessing over it since, “I can do better than that!” The key is in the type of sausage you get. Well, we found it. Garlic pork sausages! They were DELICIOUS, and Akin is considering serving them at Darwin’s eventually. There’s still a bit more recipe tweaking to come, so keep your fingers crossed!

Chomp & Stomp Chili Cookoff: Mmmm…Chili cookoff… Along with a few thousand other Atlantians, I went to the Chomp & Stomp Chili Cookoff in Cabbagetown. Chili, Music, People, Artists, and lots and lots of waiting in lines.
I had a blast, and it was a fine day for standing around in a line in a park listening to Live Bluegrass. All the chili was great, what little of it I had…I waited in so many lines most of the chili was gone by the time I even got a quarter of the way through…and I was there early! I was jealous of seeing some folks walking around with a stack of 20+ cups, while I had less than 10. These were generally the drunken folks who push their way to the front..but it was all in good chili!
I met some awesome folks, saw some old friends, and made some new ones! All-in-all a good day. Afterwards, I had to go home and rest up for The Bush Pilots show!

Stoney Brooks Band: My evening started off at Darwin’s with Stoney Brooks. I’d seen Stoney play at our Thursday Jam several times, and have always loved his Harmonica playing! But wow, he’s got a great voice! Stoney and his band were this year’s winners of the Atlanta Blues Competition! Using these awesome old acoustic instruments, these guys have an incredibly unique sound!

I’ve had an incredibly busy week since my last post, filled with many many great photos. Between last week’s Blues Jam, Men in Blues, and our Halloween Grand Opening I’ve posted over 2 hundred images to Darwin’s Burgers and Blues blog. I’ll pick up where I left off from there:
Monday: Jim Ransone’s acoustic set. Mondays are pretty slow everywhere, I decided to save my gas and hang out with Jim.

Tuesday: I had a blast hanging out with Little G and Michael Guy Tuesday! Buddy Guy’s nephew came by Darwin’s and hung out with us, what a treat!

Thursday - We’ve had such great acts at Darwin’s lately I’ve just been hanging around and soaking it up! Thursday was Darwin’s Blues Jam, and what a night… So many great musicians came out, we had 4 female singers come in this week and they ALL sounded amazing!

Truett Lollis: We love Truett, and he will be opening for Little G at our Grand Opening on October 29th at 8pm! He was nice enough to come by the jam and play a few songs before he was whisked away to another gig at 11.

Marshall Ruffin - Several weeks ago I met Tiffany Leigh of the band Waller who gave me a free pass to see her band at Park Tavern. It just so happens Marshall Ruffin was opening for them! Marshall was suggested to me by a few other folks and he put on a great two-piece set!

Little G Weevil - Little G put on a great set as always and we had a great crowd come out! Maurice Nazzaro of the Cazanovas came and backed G up on the “Chicago Saxophone” as G called it. G will be headlining Darwin’s Grand Opening on Saturday the 29th backed by John McKnight on drums!

Rod Hamdallah - Rod filled in for Jim Ransone Monday and put on a great set! Rod is heavily influenced by other great 2-piece sets like The Black Keys and White Stripes. I can’t wait to see his two-piece set play this Saturday at Darwin’s!
